Absolutely love this place. We had a dinner at the bar and it was a great experience. Tuna Tacos were delicious if you like truffles. Guacamole weren't to die for and I wouldn't order them again but their fish and side dishes are great. Service is amazing and place looks beautiful. I also had a spicy margarita that was just perfect. Five star for ambiance, service and drinks. I can oversee fee imperfections in food considering the whole experience!

First let me say the food quality was excellent. Apart from some under prepared soft tacos and terribly prepared cocktails, everything was top drawer. The decor is also excellent. Where this restaurant really fails is in the quality of the service and the cleanliness of the facility. The servers were un-informed and inattentive. The bussers were over enthusiastic--actually removing menus before I had ordered and asking to remove plates while I was still eating. The hosts were distracted and unfocused . The nice decor was not well maintained--especially a nice glass decoration they have in front of liquor display cases in the rear of the main room. The cleanliness issue was topped off by a greasy film on the table that the very wet rags of the bussers could not remove. I could literally write my name on the table top with my finger in the greasy film.

This restaurant is now closed for renovations. I hope they change the sign and get rid of the words "non-clique". People were very disappointed it the sign.

Amazing service and beautiful place. We ordered the grilled octopus that was particularly amazing. You should definitely order the "Equites" they make them in front of you and they are delicious!

Porfirio's has had it's share of issues in the beginning when the restaurant first opened, but I decided to give it a chance and see what the place had to offer. The location and the building are both impeccable. There's a large outdoor sitting area if you want to enjoy the weather or go with a large group. The indoor seating still has an outdoor feel, which is really nice. Super high ceilings and great interior design. There was a loud birthday party going on in the terrace area, so we opted to sit inside for a more formal, intimate dinner. Our server was kind and attentive, but the restaurant wasn't very busy so it's hard to judge how service would be on a more hectic night. I highly recommend the Chile Relleno. I usually order that at every Mexican restaurant I go to, and this was by far the best. Lots of flavor and texture, and it was cooked to perfection. We also ordered shrimp tacos, but sadly the portions were not enough for a full meal and my friend left hungry. Great margaritas and drinks as well. Overall, I think Porfirio's has done a good job of overcoming its initial reputation.

Food is great, a little over priced, and drinks need more liquor, atmosphere is beautiful, service fantastic!!! Over a nice place to eat dinner

Very Expensive, Food Tasted Horrible! At here last week. We were a big group and everyone had the same disgust in their face as the food rolled out form the kitchen. The Good: Decoration is beautiful. The Bad & The Ugly: The $20 tacos seriously tasted like they were dipped in dishwashing detergent. We left the place hungry with our wallets empty!

The location is terrific and the venue is amazing. The wait staff is attentive but as one other person said in their review, you feel like you're being hustled, not just serviced. They also use props. The food? Bland bordering on inedible. I'm not kidding, but, TGI Friday makes better Mexican food. They first brought out these gray (yes gray in color) Tuna pieces in this overly decorated platter. You could taste the freezer burn and disgusting fishy taste. It accompanied a rubbery over decorated plate of octopus (Can you really screw this up? Guess so..) Then these tacos came out, We tried them all, because they kept bringing them whether we ordered them or not, again the hustle and overzealous sales team. We accepted it all though looking to find at least one thing we liked. Nothing. Not one taco was tasty. It all had freezer burn or was sinewy in texture. I can only compare the food to a really bad supermarket version of frozen food. The fish was disgusting. Then they have the props. The presentations are over the top. I almost felt like I was on a hidden camera show where we were being tested to see if we actually let the atmosphere and props fool us into believing the food was good. My fish came out on this platter with a little fish ornament across the top with a really bad and small piece of fish smothered in canned pineapples. Ive had good Mexican food, Ive had excellent Mexican food. This is really sub Taco Bell. It says brazenly on the menu that they make their own Tortillas. When one person asked if they were made with gluten they brought out a bag which is the same brand you can buy in Publix. Im really not kidding. Dessert came, it was a train-like-prop that was about 18 inches long and about 12 inches tall. It had ONE little lonely Plantain. ONE... this entire train thing with one sole and lonely tasteless plantain with a baby scoop of ice-cream and some canned carmel topping. None of it was good. I know this is the first few weeks and they did their opening during summer which is understood but they better get their acts together quickly. If not this would be a great venue for a chef who cares.

We came for lunch and left underwhelmed. I wanted to love this place. The ceviche trio was nice but uninspired. All 3 ceviches had too similar a flavor profile. The queso was unique and tasty. Chicken Mole was good but they forgot to serve the accompanying rice until we were 1/2 way into the dish. The fish (grouper) was fresh but nothing special. The flan was good. The berries, with cream and merengue didn't need the merengue. I'd try it again on somebody else's dime. **our server's English was very poor.

How should I say this... if you've never been to Mexico City you might like it. If you have, you'll hate it. The menu is totally different from the ones in Mexico City. The quality of the food is significantly lower. The restaurante is pretty, however I have to say they've failed at everything else. I love Mexican food. Mexico City is one of my favorite places to eat. I was just in the Santa Fe location a week ago. The memory is still fresh in my head, and it was a total flop for me. Also, it was too expensive for the service and food. I don't think I'll be returning here. Much better places to eat in Miami.

I'll preface this review by stating I'm not a huge fan of Mexican cuisine, but I love to try new restaurants. The location is great, nestled on a quiet street, south of fifth. The décor is amazing. Zen relaxation comes to mind. The bar is beautiful and if you're looking for a place to start your night, stop here. As soon as our party was seated, menus in hand, the welcome food arrived. I love when restaurants understand that we've starved ourselves all day for a good meal at night. We ordered a green salad with figs that was delicious. I ordered chipotle pollo that was presented in a small fry pan and accompanied by soft taco bread. It was just okay. Nothing special. For dessert I tried the flan. It was very good (and big) so next time I'll order it to share. The presentation on everything was outstanding! Another table nearby ordered ice cream that arrived on a table sized ice cream cart and was great for sharing with the table. I expected the bill to be higher than it was. Overall I enjoyed the experience and definitely look forward to returning soon.

The Food is to die for. I ordered the short ribs and they were so tasty and juicy. We also had some filet mignon, shrimp, and tacos with their in-house bean dip... To die for. Not to mention the martinis, a must have!

I don't know what these other people are talking about. Everything was really effin good. Service was on a fine-dining level.. Exceptional. Good guac. Instead of "bread", they give you taco snacks. The restaurant design is awesome, high ceilings and good lighting.

We came to celebrate my brother's birthday and were very impressed with the service and food. Our server, Jose, was very knowledge and made great dinner and drink recommendations. The menu is extensive with authentic Mexican food. Items that are a must have include the Esquites prepared tableside, Costilla De Res Horneada, Homemade Ice Cream and Churros.

Excellent service, the food is very good! We ordered the grilled octopus, green enchiladas, the Chile relleno poblano with cheese and the esquite were amazing! You have to try the churros for dessert! Will be back soon!

Beautifully decorated restaurant with good atmosphere. The food was okay. I got the ceviche trio which was average. I tried the lobster taco which was pretty good, but nothing that blew me out of the water. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food in general though. I will say the overall experience was enjoyable. The service and drinks were good.

This hurts. I've been to Porfirio's in Polanco, Mexico City and the Miami outpost is washed out and dried. This has NOTHING to do with Mexico. Not the food or the service. There isn't much to say, the place looks good but the staff is awful and the food is bad. The tuna tartare feels straight from the can although they claim it's fresh. Mexico Lindo y querido you feel so removed from this place. Que pena!

  • Edward M.

"Por DIOS" is what they should name it. Stopped in twice for dinner. It's average in every way. See for yourself. All I'm saying is, in a city where every sucky restaurant gets 4 1/2 yelp stars, this place is just hanging on with 3. It's another example of design and build-out before food. Thanks for adding another tourist destination to my neighborhood.

Ordered a bunch of appetizers and they were all delicious. Drinks are very interesting. The service was outstanding although the server had just started and really wasn't very helpful as far as the menu was concerned. They did a beautiful job with the decor. Dined alfresco in a very romantic setting.

  • Sas N.

I'll keep this short... the space is beautiful - great ambiance. The service is great - very friendly and attentive staff. The presentation is unique - a lot of effort went into the way items were served. The food, however, leaves a lot to be desired - extremely overpriced for what you get and how it tastes. Bottom line: save yourself some money - go there, order a drink or two, enjoy the space and then go to your reservation elsewhere.

How can i describe one of the worst experiences of my eating life...well here it comes!!! Party of 6 on a saturday night, our table was not ready, so we headed for the bar, really overcrowded, people walking all over the place, i felt i was in grand central station, the bartender was nice, and the drinks were tasty, if i could rate the bar experience, i would give it a 3.5. Then we sat down on our sauna, i meant our table, it was really hot, it was not their fault, but, the server was lost, 3 people came and asked about the kind of water we wanted, after more than 20 minutes we finally got our water service. Then the waiter proceeded to explain the menu, he couldn't speak proper english, so half of our table didn't understand anything at all. We ordered some appetizers, tacos, cheese, ceviche, and of course guacamole, they were all bland, the guacamole was awful, no taste at all, i personally asked for a spoon for my ceviche, it took them 20 minutes and 3 times to ask for it, to finally get my spoon, by then the ceviche was already warm. The rest of the meal was mediocre, i got the octopus, over seasoned, and a bit tough, 2 people got the fish, over salted, and no sauce at all...we order 3 margaritas at the end of our appetizers and we got them at the end of our main course. In summary, another Mexican restaurant that disappoints...they should have some sort of AC running outside to make it more pleasant, Mexican food is generally hot, if you add to that the miami summer weather, it makes it for a very uncomfortable dining experience. I don't think they will be there for too long, sorry, but that is the honest truth, too many great restaurants around...

The place is gorgeous and the food is delish, but way overpriced for regular Mexican. The hostesses and managers were a delight, but our waiter was horrible, straight out bossy, rude and not very knowledgable about Mexican food which put a dent in our awesome night. I could go on about him. Oh and they refilled my Mom's wine with water three times. We left 20% tip and the rude waiter tried to tell us it was not enough. I really wanted to love this place but I'm not sure I'll come back for 3 $20 micro tacos. I know they are trying to be an upscale type of place but their menu was nowhere near that, maybe if they truly do some nouveau dishes they'll have better luck. Also, In my opinion, the mezcal drinks are way to bitter, stick to Tequila.

  • pepe c.

We have been in this place two times and both experiences compare. Good food, terrible, terrible service. Waiters are cocky and rude. But that's not the real issue. Both times they tried to push food and overcharge when they could. Today like the time before, we order a virgin margarita and they charge us full price. The waiter asked us if we wanted sparkling water, we said yes and after the first bottle they kept bringing sparkling water without asking if we wanted more. It's summer and we were thirsty, at the end we saw in our bill that each bottle of sparkling water cost 8 dollars and that add up to the bill considerably. We think this will be the last time we will come back to Porfirio's.

Porfirio's is the new, hot, upscale restaurant on Miami Beach. Having lived in Polanco in Mexico City for several years, I was looking forward to authentic food - like the food made in my kitchen by my Mexican cook. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The sopa de tortilla was creamy, a first for me. The sopes, which we ate very frequently in Mexico, had no salsa. Sopes without salsa is like pizza without sauce. The server was very attentive. However, when the tortilla soup was accidentally spilled on off-white fabric shoes, and the sleeve of a shirt, we were quickly moved to another table to allow for clean up. Surprisingly, though we were given many apologies, there was no complimentary anything when the bill arrived. The shoes were cleaned somewhat, but are clearly stained. This lack of courtesy and offering nothing more than just an apology is unheard of in such a high scale, new restaurant which is trying to build a reputation and clientele. Next time I travel to Mexico, I plan to visit Porfirio's in Polanco, to taste the sopa de tortilla and sopes. Surely, the Mexicans will get it right in the DF! Unfortunately, the importance of presentation takes priority over the authenticity of the food served in the Miami Porfirio's.

Went to this just opened 3 months ago gourmet Mexican restaurant with 12 friends. The place is brand new, the decor and combination of indoor and outdoor area looked great. The service was really great being we were a big party, food came out rather quick and we were all very satisfied with the quality and taste. This is not a cheap place but can say it was worth it. I will go back!

I came with my girlfriend on a random Saturday night yelp adventure. I got to restaurant with no reservation. The hostess told me that there was no more room for the night but a manager made the accommodations and accepted us in. The server was a little light on the friendliness and helpfulness. Felt pushed to the most expensive plate but it was great. Wanted to try the "sabana de invierno" but they didn't have it, then tried to pick another steak and it was not available either. If I could of tried the steak and would of been well guided on the menu it would have been a 5 star. I am sure it was just a busy night. The place is beautiful and the support staff was kind and helpful.

Great dinner here. The setting is amazing, great high ceilings, beautiful patio. Service was friendly and helpful. Food was incredible. Appetizers were tasty especially steak tacos. We had grilled red snapper which was very flood and light. Had beef as well off the bone. So good! And chocolate mousse and Churros for dessert. Nice! Highly recommend.

Classic Mexican Cuisine, excellent! Queso Cilantro fenomenal, tostada with a bean puree and three sauces from mild to spicy on the house, one of the best guacamole we've had I asked it mild but should have asked spicy, still delicious! Chamorro al horno it's a pork lover's delight! (For two) comes with avocado, lime, onions, cilantro, peppers on the side. Service very very good! Pablo our server was extremely helpful! We had wine but they have a great selection of tequila's! P.S. Ordered a side of mole poblano and it is simply good VERY good! P.S.S. Churros for dessert! Will be back!

Forget this place, They advertise on Miami Spice for Sunday Dinner and than refuse to honor it saying that weekends are excluded, moron waiter wouldn't even look at my phone to see that they are offering it on the site. Oh well, you can't change stupid, So we ordered from the regular menu and the food quality was poor. The fish tacos were 3 two 1/2 inch tacos filled with frozen salmon with smoke flavor to try to mask the frozen mess. , they were gross, didn't care about portion sized because they were bad! The 3 glasses of corn and mayonnaise appetizer was a joke , they put on a show with a cart and it was only exceeded by the tacos as being gross. The grouper ,was a little better but nothing to even stand out as being good. Overall it is a tourist trap that needs to either step up the quality of their bad service, and crappy food, or get out of that nice space and let a real restaurant in there. We live a block away and there is no way this place will be here in 1 year , unless they do a major revamping. Avoid at all costs. You will spend $$$ here and be disappointed

We were encouraged to try this new Mexican place South of 5th as it was considered upscale and beautiful. We found it to be very lacking. The staff seems to think that they have invented fine Mexican cuisine. The manager bragged about how many restaurants the chain has. Further questioning discovers that only 3 are fine dining and Miami has the only one so far. They have a lot to learn about customer service. The corkage policy is worse than Il Gabbiano! Plus they were rude and stubborn about it. And no wonder, as the wine choices were overpriced. Food was mediocre, and when the chef came over to ask, we offered constructive criticism, but he shrugged and walked away. Why did he ask? The guacamole was insipid and tiny. The fish tacos were too much taco not enough fish. A special request for shrimp without onions had to be sent back. Great location, beautiful venue, but needs some work both in the front and the back of the house.

    (2)
  • Gilda C.

Terribly disappointing. All dishes were brought out at the same time and the server was up selling from "hello". Food was mediocre and lacked inspiration. If you want a fine dining experience, skip this one.

You teased me with sopes de pollo, satisfied me with taquitos de jaiba, seduced me with your mole and won me over with your puntas al chipotle. This is the real deal and for fine high end Mexican food - a la DF (Mexico City) -- well worth the minor inconvenience of shlepping to SouthBeach and fighting for parking. I was recently there for lunch during Miami Spice and from the presentation of the menu to the dessert it was a completely professional and friendly experience. You'll definitely want to ask for the extra 'spicy' sauces that they have for you to try at the onset. The creamy chile de arbol sauce is intoxicatingly delicious. The pollo con mole was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, just tangy enough to want you to take an extra bite even though you're already stuffed. The puntas al chipotle reminded of a fine simmered and well condimentized curry -- but the chipotle marinade and sauce elevated the dish to statue level. The space and restaurant decor are a combination of modern and rustic. The patio will most certainly be quite popular during our non humid months. A worthy and excellent experience top to bottom. Felicidades!

This place was ridiculous, made reservations for my husbands and our daughters for his birthday. I thought he would enjoy the place since he is from Mexico City. Unfortunately it was a nightmare. We were given one menu a few minutes later they gave us 2 more. We had to ask for the 4th menu. The waiter was snobby kept pushing the most expensive things on the menu. Took my utensils and never replaced them. I shared the pork shank with my husband and made tacos with their nasty "homemade" corn tortillas. He also took our napkins after dinner and we needed them for desert. My husband's daughter ordered the horchata, he should have mentioned it was a bucket of it and that it should be shared. how is 1 person suppose to drink all of that. Needless to say more than half went to waste. My daughter ordered the "crunchy tacos" they were really flautas. ($23 for 4) they were dry and awful, Slopes were blah. The chips they give came with beans that were refrigerator cold. I don't know if this was a mistake or they are suppose to be cold. They were attentive to refilling our glasses with water without us asking, realized later were were being charged for it ($16). The red enchilada was supper salty. Only thing that was ok was the ice cream cart. NEVER AGAIN!!

We had a birthday dinner for a friend last night. 14 of us. I was not expecting too much after reading the reviews. Two major exceptions to a rather nice experience. My food was good as well as others. However there was grumbling at the table about some dishes not living up to expectations. Especially taking the rather high price per plate into consideration. The other disappointment was they sat us in the back of the inside dining room when we requested the patio. Other than you need to be careful about the staff trying at every turn to up sell you on drinks we had a blast. Very good looking and friendly staff from beginning to end. I would go back but definitely will not frequent the place!

Outstanding! Wife and I went on a whim when staying nearby. Yes it is pricey, but it's upscale, portions are huge, and presentation great. Service was excellent. We had guacamole (made table side), tamale appetizer (very generous), tortilla soup, chile relllano, sadana invierno (pounded skirt steak covered in refried beans, cheese, green sauce). Delicious!

Super small portions, super expensive... I guess that's how they afford the fancy décor and serving dishes that the mediocre food hides behind. Numerous wait staff buzz about, but they don't actually serve, do anything, or bring anything. PS. Valets took our car for a joyride and spilled something in it...

I would like to begin this review by telling you readers I was so excited to try this restaurant. In fact, so excited that I began planning future visits with different groups of friends before I even walked foot into the establishment. This restaurant has a great location, and is decorated beautifully. The interior design is truly gorgeous. That is where all the good ends. My husband cannot eat cheese. When we ordered, I specifically asked if the items we choose could be made without any cheese or cheese garnish. I repeated it 15 times and our waiter reaffirmed it back 15 times. Of course everything that hit the table had cheese. We told the bus boy, and finally the waiter came, took everything away and replaced everything with no cheese. Ok, fine, no problem. The chicken tamale was so bland I poured the salsa provided all over to flavor it up. The fried chicharon was good. The mini huaraches were very bland as well. The guacamole was fresh, but still bland. The arrachera tacos(flank steak) not very flavorful either. Ok, a margarita can save these tasteless appetizers right! Wrong!! Tasted like a total mixer from the bottle uhh could only finish two sips it tasted so bad. A bad margarita you say?! Yep! The waiter was totally unpresent. Then the costilla de res( short rib) the waiter claimed was a must have (obviously now realize from other reviews the just push expensive items) was flavorless. Rice and beans were ok and the only tasty item was the Rajas con crema (peppers and onion in creamy sauce) we ordered desert hoping that it would revive my spirits of this place. Cute presentation of churros had to be good right?! Wrong!! No way they were homemade, smelled like unfresh oil, you know when you go to the fair and it's 10pm and the french fry stand has a stale oil smell? Besides the food being less than memorable, the service was so weak. The waiter was unavailable?? The only professional apologetic staff was the sweet bus boys. I left so upset after having such high hopes for this spot. I really hope they can get the management and waiters trained properly. Such a shame for such a pretty place. I will not be returning, even if it was an invitation. Such a disappointment uhhhh

I just came across this place last night. Never heard or seen it before. It is kind of tucked away behind some construction right in front of joes stone crab parking lot. The ambiance was very chic. It was kind of slow and we walked in I think due to the weather and it being a little chilly outside however we were promptly seated inside. The extra high ceilings give it a very grandiose feeling. It had floor to ceiling wood paneling and we're not talking about a regular 12 foot ceiling the ceiling had to be at least two and a half stories tall. It was beautiful and stacked in the background on a wall was unlimited supplies of bottled liquor. This is just one we walk through the door so let's just say I was highly impressed. The food was equally impressive. We had an octopus appetizer which is not something I normally would order however it was delicious. We also got the guacamole and chips in for an entree I had the grouper with pinapples. All of this was in Spanish on the menu just so you know. I just don't know the names. The place is pretty expensive but I would go back. Great place to take a date :-)

Another restaurant in South Beach, but this one surely impresses. Their slogan "Cocina Mexicana Non-Cliche" hold true to their word this isn't your average Mexican or "Tex-Mex" restaurant. Beginning with the decor of the establishment, this place is nicely decorated with a large outdoor patio section, trendy looking bar a spacious inside for those bad weather days. Antonio Diez, very graciously sat us down to a table of our choosing on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy some of their fine food and quality service and they certainly lived up to it. The drink menu arrived and didn't find any beer, wine or bubbly but found a surplus of tequila bottles - not my style to tried their Chili-Mango drink. With spicy salt grazed on the rim it made the perfect combo for every sip! The drinks arrived and so did their version of chips and salsa - 4 large round crispy tortillas, pico de gallo, lime, small serving of refried beans accompanied with three sauces. If you can handle the spice, ask for the habanero sauce. It makes Taco Bell's "Fire" sauce look like a fraud. For starters we ordered the Esquites that everyone raved about and yes - totally worth it. Three parfait looking glasses corn, mayo, crema, cotija cheeses and paprika. Absolutely delicious and refreshing. We decided to share Tacos Ribeye & Chicharron - 4 small tacos with a punch of flavor of rib eye steak, typical mexican garnishes topped with a chicharron. The main star was the Pulpo a la parilla (Grilled Octopus). Laid out on a grill pan crispy tentacles, very well seasoned with a lime that added that extra taste. While there were many intriguing choices for dessert we settled on Manchego Cheesecake - trust me no disappointment there! Not only was the food great but the atttention to detail and most importantly the service was absolutely phenomenal. We were never rushed and the food came out between meals at the perfect time. We will most certainly go again - probably next time for their new brunch!

We stumbled in to Porfirio's, an expansive high-end Mexican restaurant located in the South of Fifth neighborhood of South Beach, on opening night. As with any place just getting their sea legs, there were some hiccups. But overall, Porfirio's delivered a solid 3.5 stars. Imported from Mexico City, Porfirio's offers fanciful, yet traditional, Mexican dishes. The fanciful element comes out in the plating and delivery of some menu items - guacamole, elote and esquites (corn off the cob) are delivered by push cart. The tamal appetizer is served atop a colorful wooden pedestal. The churros come in a custom-made carnival-style cart. The food was pretty tasty, the drinks were strong, and the restaurant itself is beautiful, with lots of dark wood and airy ceilings. They also have a huge outdoor patio (over half of the restaurant). The service was stellar, and our servers were eager to offer suggestions, explain various plays on traditional Mexican dishes served at Porfirio's, and overall make our dining experience an enjoyable one. Porfirio's is a welcome addition to the SoFi neighborhood, and here's hoping it's around for quite a while. I know I'll be back!

Very Expensive (over-priced) & the food was sadly AWFUL ! The location is terrific, the place is beautiful. I did enjoy the drinks BUT i don't recommend this place for lunch or dinner the staff was okay

The ambiance is really nice, the drinks are delicious and the food is good, it's expensive my husband and I spent $150 including tip, drinks appetizer and entrees. It's better if you have a reservation but they accept walk in as well.

I went with my husband a week after their opening and I was so excited! I felt like they had brought a little piece of my Mexico City to Miami. The decor is awesome! The architecture was the typical modern, high-end yet casual ambiance of a Mexico City restaurant in Pedregal or Polanco. High ceilings, wood, large covered Terrace with a modern stone fountain in the middle that reminded me to the anthropology museum in DF. The music was awesome! Super Mexico pop so I felt right at home. The service is amazing from the hostess at the entrance, to the servers and busboys all the way to Toño the manager who came to the table and spent a good amount of time talking to us explaining the whole concept of the place as well as the ingredients used in each one of the 5 salsas he brought for us to try. They have a huge selection of Mezcals, Tequilas, International wines (including awesome Mexican wines) and of course their signature cocktails such as the Josefinas (with Mezcal) and the Porfirios (with Tequila). My josefina was made of tamarind and it actually came with a little piece of tamarind candy from Mexico. My husband had a spicy mango Porfirio which was served with two slices of fresh mangos with Tajin. While you sip on your drinks they bring a much better version of the chips with salsa. They bring hand made tostadas with their house bean dip topped with cheese, a nopal salad and limes. Besides they bring different salsas to try including chipotle, raw green (tomatillo) and morita. We ordered the esquites (boiled kettle corn) which were prepared table side with the classic toppings such as lime, tajin, mayo and cheese. If you haven't tried esquites, you must, it is a typical street snack that will change your life :) We also ordered the ceviches sampler (shrimp, octopus, and fish) all prepared classical Mexican style with lots of lime, cilantro, chopped onion and tomatoes. As a third appetizer we got the tacos de canasta which are also a classic street food from Mexico. The presentation is beautiful! They come inside the basket of a little bike with an umbrella just like the bike used by the tacos de canasta vendors in Mexico! Trip down to memory lane! For our main course we shared some enmoladas which are just like enchiladas but served with mole instead of a regular sauce. The mole was so rich and delicious, it is hard to describe its perfect taste, each hand made tortilla was filled with chicken and topped with cream, cheese and onion. As side orders we got the beans with chorizo and rajas with cream! I can't explain the rajas you just must order them!! Lastly we ordered the platano horneado, highlight of my week! This is a big plantain baked topped with condensed sweet milk and caramel, most delicious dessert ever. The presentation is beyond beautiful as it is served on a miniature version of the camotero street vendor car. Overall we fell in love with Porfirio's so much that we already made reservations to go with friends the following week. About the prices you will be surprised at how fairly priced the menu is. You can make it as expensive or as cheap as you want depending on what you order.

I really enjoyed this place! The food was yummy and very original, the service was excellent and the atmosphere is beautiful and cozy. I can't wait to go back to try their churros (they ran out of them yesterday grrrr lol). Try the "winter quilt" if you like meat and the guacamole and salsa there are also very tasty.

Listen up! This one is One of my FAVORITE additions to South Beach scene - and I don't add them often. Stunning ambience, great modern Mexican cuisine as it meant to be, none of the Tex-Mex nonsense we usually experience in US. There are plenty of dishes to indulge on or, if your are watching your waistline, there are great choices for you too! Go on and make your reservations - they get pretty booked up;)

Very impressed with this place. I was a little nervous since the reviews are low but it's definitely a place to try. The presentation is nicely done, the portion size is perfect. I had the lobster tacos to start, which are delicious and the carne asada entree. The ambience is very nice and comfortable. Also tried the Chimimango cocktail and it was delicious. All n all I would recommend this place for an upscale Mexican restaurant.

Excellent service! Beautiful decor! Very good food! It's such a pleasure to eat real Mexican and not Tex-Mex! We ate: chili rellenos, guacamole, spinach salad and fish tacos, real flavor, very fresh. Mr. Valdez is an excellent GM!!

I was so excited to welcome a new Mexican restaurant to the neighborhood. It's hard to find good Mexican in Miami. Unfortunately this is yet another subpar Miami attempt at Mexican. The food lacked flavor on many of the dishes. I had to put lemon & salt on my tuna tartar to enjoy it. The chips were stale and I had to ask for new ones. Overall not very good food and lacking quality. The location is so pretty! Its unfortunate it was so empty. But after dinner I fully understand why. Over dinner we discussed how you can have the most beautiful restaurant but if the food isn't good then it will fail. The staff is very friendly but everyone seems rather "lost". Too bad! This could have been such a hit!

Absolutely spectacular! Having lived in Oaxaca, MX for several months I was hoping for an authentic Mexican cuisine experience and Oh, Porforio's--you delivered! Where do I begin? The ambiance and aesthetics are not at all what I was expecting of a Mexican restaurant...no sombreros or bright neon colors here, but rather a gorgeous, contemporary design that is complimented by an incredibly expansive space (especially large for South Beach!). Beautiful dark woods inside are carried into the spacious patio outside where there is a spectacular water sculpture/centerpiece that provides a certain "Zen" affect. Ok, on to the service. Outstanding! My glass was always full and a new set of plates and utensils arrived right on cue with every course. We had the lunch special which brings a choice of appetizer, entre and desert--all for only $25. Picky about Mole, I asked to try the semi-sweet/spicy concoction before ordering and the waiter promptly accommodated my request. I was pleasantly surprised and opted for the Ceviche to start, the Pollo con Mole as the entre, and topped with a delicious flan for desert. Equally picky about Ceviche I was beyond elated at the perfect blend of citrus flavors accompanied by diced peppers and onions (that were not at all overbearing and didn't deter from the flavors of the fish, octopus, and shrimp). The Mole was spectacular and the chicken juicy and tender. I have to admit I couldn't fit in the desert but it is awaiting me in the fridge for a snack later. Thank you Porfirio's for a fantastic culinary experience. I will definitely be back soon!!

First, the restaurant is beautiful and has a great outside dining room. Second, it's the nicest Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. The food was also excellent. I normally judge restaurants by their octopus, since it has to be fresh and good quality, or else it doesn't taste very good. The octopus was huge here and cooked perfectly. The presentation was equally impressive. I also recommend the esquites. My only negative comment is that the coctails were just average and not creative, like I would expect at a place like this in South Beach. Oh, and they refilled my wife's wine glass with water while she was half through. They fixed the mistake, so no harm done.

From the people who brought you Senior Frog, comes this upscale Miami (and US) debut. First, I must credit the décor, ambiance and service as all very good. But that's where it ends. I am a fan of Mexican food, but just don't get this nouvelle Mexican cuisine. Most cocktails are with Mezcal, a poor substitute for good tequila, too smoky and bitter. The large corn chips and multiple salsas fall short and taste odd. The special corn dish prepared tableside in three glasses tastes very bland. Finally, the freshly prepared guacamole is maybe a tad better then what you find in stores. We didn't dare venture further. Adios!

For Mexican food it's perfect. The attention you get is great I recommend any drink on the drink list... It's nice and light you can share a salad. My brother in law had the tuna tacos had a kick to it.Yummy and delicious!!! Cute ways of serving dishes. Get the tamale app, guacamole. Three minor things...get rid of the high tables in the back and authentic Mexican music would be nice and the lights in the moan dining room could be dimmed a bit.

Came here as a group of 5. I am a local, I live within walking distance. Ambiance is nice. Margaritas were good! Everything was good until our food came... The tacos were confusing (fish looked like meat, meat looked like fish... even the waiter couldn't decipher which was which). I ordered the tuna tatar and it was so salty I had to send it back. They brought me this tuna roll instead that was so plain and bland.. not good... three of us ordered the tuna and none of us were pleased. My fiancé ordered a meat dish that was so unbearably spicy he could barely eat it. And the meat itself so very cheap and rubbery. My friend's salad also was so unbearably spicy it was confusing. It actually became comical to us just how bad ALL of our food was. Service was not high end. Oh, then the bill came. Over $500. Ugh, I really wanted to like this place.

Que pena!

While I will make the effort of writing a review, feel free to read the other negative reviews prior to mine, because they are all spot-on based on my experience. The wife and I were excited to dine at this new establishment (w/plenty of hype) this past Wednesday night. Upon arriving without reservations the host was pleasant enough and promptly seated us indoors (that's where the positive feedback ends). As for the dining experience.........cue circus music. We were asked by 4 separate servers what type of water we would like (flat, sparkling or "iced"). We finally received our flat (bottled btw) approximately 20 mins. later (mind you the restaurant was still relatively quiet). Drinks: This time asked by two separate waiters. Margarita - $19 (which we did not order, but drank anyway) which was sub-par and something you could get at Bongo's for 1/2 the price and a Tamarind Mezcal which was decent. We ended up having 4 drinks total with the last drink taking at least 20+ minutes to arrive at our table. Appetizers: Free chips w/salsa (the best food of the night). The wife ordered the ceviche which was bland and soggy. I had the Pulpo a la Mexicana, which was octopus (admittedly tender) in a bowl of hot ragu (i.e. no flavor). Dinner: The wife had Pulpo a la Parrilla, which was grilled, flavorless octopus splayed out on a grill pan. I had the Pescado al Pastor, which was rubbery, flavorless (had to be frozen) fish that was presented on a wooden board with a Pier 1 Imports' fish medallion sticking up from the dish (yes, it's all about presentation here people). Dessert: Are you kidding? Combined with what we just ingested and the pageantry around other items that we witnessed being served we wisely decided to pass. Overall: The best way to sum up the experience: think Epcot (pick any country), with a menu marked up by about 25%, food that tastes like the sample booths from Costco (on a good day) and a wait staff that makes you feel like you just got off a Carnival cruise-line on one of those islands (fill-in name) where they are hawking all kinds of wares.

Ordered a bunch of appetizers and they were all delicious. Drinks are very interesting. The service was outstanding although the server had just started and really wasn't very helpful as far as the menu was concerned. They did a beautiful job with the decor. Dined alfresco in a very romantic setting.

Beautiful space, fabulous bar, attentive bartender and awesome cocktails. We should have stopped there. Our primary waiter tried hard to correct all the overly zealous servers who ineptly tried to serve us. Wine glasses improperly washed had ad odors so it ruined the taste of our wine. Still water was poured into our glasses of sparkling water. So many people hovered over our table it was annoying and caused many food service errors The food sadly was awful, guacamole was meh and chips were not crisp and fresh, Salsas were just fair. The tuna tartare looked and tasted like chicken of the sea, nit fresh ahi. Enchilada were drowning in sauce and just not enjoyable. There are lot of bugs that need to be worked out here if they intend to survive in the competitive restaurant scene here.

The decoration and set up is beautiful. The outside setting is great for a nice autumn/winter day. But a summer day in Miami is way too hot and humid to sit outside; therefore, we opted for inside seating - just like everyone else. Inside, the tables are set too close together, hardly enough room for waiters to walk around you, sometimes bumping into you. A very nice thing for the ladies, they'll bring you a stand to hold everyone's purse. We were excited to see the presentation and taste the food. Our waiter came and we (5 of us) ordered drinks and guacamole. The drinks were wonderful! We looked around and the food presentation was beautiful. When the guacamole was brought to the table, the presentation was nice and the restaurant started to look like a gem. Downhill started when we tasted the guacamole. It was just pressed avocado with onions and cilantro on the side; no taste to it what-so-ever. We had to add the spicy sauce to it for some taste. We ordered our main course and were hopeful that the rest of the meal would be great. My husband and I ordered the short rib to share. The others ordered the Pescado al Pastor, Chicken Garcia and Beef tips in Chipotle. The food arrived . The beef tips were tough, a little chewy and not tasty - even though they were in a chipotle sauce. The Chicken Garcia was just an over-grilled chicken breast with two pieces of cheese next to it, the fish was the best of all the dishes, yet we wouldn't recommend it. The biggest disappointment of the night was the short ribs. We had seen the short rib on a presentation done by an entertainment reporter that expressed how wonderful this was. The short rib was tasteless and dry. It seemed like it had sat over a heating lamp for a very long time. We squeezed four slices of lime over it to add some taste. The only side dish to all the meals was tortilla. Even though we were a party of five, they brought one basket (3 tortillas) for all of us. We had to ask for an extra basket, making it 6 tortillas for 5 people. This was enough since none of us finished our meal. We have eaten in authentic Mexican restaurants here in the states and in Mexico. It has always been very tasteful and wonderful. This food was bland and not properly cooked (2 dishes over cooked, 1 dish under cooked). When the bill came we had spent $350, not including tip. We love going out to eat and don't mind what we spend as long as we enjoy it. When the food is so disappointing, paying this kind of money is a crime. Conclusion, we will not be returning. We will definitely not recommend Porfirio's to any of our friends or family. Miami has too many great restaurants to spend this kind of money on one that we didn't even consider mediocre. (Giving it two stars because the drinks were great.)

Food is tasty. Loved the ribeye tacos. Service is not so great -- give them a few more months to get their act together. Valet parking was expensive and slooooooow.

Chilly welcome. Poor guacamole. Poor entrees. Pretty outside seating. Expensive and really not worth it. All three of us were disappointed.

Don't let the beautiful decor suck you into this overpriced restaurant with poor service and tasteless food. When you have to send the guacamole back at a Mexican restaurant something is definitely wrong

Not impressed. Find your Mex fix somewhere authentic and cheaper. P.S. Wait staff have no clue about their menu.

The ambiance is really nice, the drinks are delicious and the food is good, it's expensive my husband and I spent $150 including tip, drinks appetizer and entrees. It's better if you have a reservation but they accept walk in as well.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
